A MOTOR was deliberately torched by a firebug in a plush West End estate in the early hours of this morning.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a Citroen car was targeted in Hughenden Gardens, near Hyndland Road, at around 1.17am today.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the blaze was extinguished by firefighters a short time later.

Officers probing the fire say it could have been "tragic" had it spread and now they are looking for a man who was seen climbing over a nearby wall before carrying out the attack.

He is described as white male, wearing a dark coloured puffer style hooded jacket, light coloured jogging bottoms and a dark coloured baseball cap.

Detective Constable Scott Hawkins at Drumchapel Police Office said: “We are currently carrying out door to door enquiries in the immediate area and would ask that anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area of Hughenden Gardens around this time to call us on the 101 number, quoting the reference number 0230 of 27 May 2020.

"Likewise we would ask anyone in the area who may have a CCTV system fitted, or were perhaps in a vehicle fitted with a dash-cam, to review their system to see if it has captured anything which might assist us in this investigation.

"This was a reckless act and the consequences could have been tragic had the fire spread.
