SIMON Community Scotland has received £8,000 in funding from The Morrison's Group.

The Gorbals-based charity will use the much-needed fund to deliver services to provide care to homeless people with complex needs, covering the cost of food and clothing, and PPE for volunteers.

The work that the group undertakes covers areas such as Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Hugh Hill, director of services and development at Simon Community Scotland, said: "In the last few weeks we have supported hundreds of people off the streets in Edinburgh and Glasgow and into a safe place where they can be safe and well.

“Our staff are working 7 days a week to make this happen, made so much easier by the support of The Morrisons Foundation helping us to reach more people, fund clothing, food, toiletries and mobile phones so people can stay in touch during this anxious time.”

The Morrison's Group was set up by the supermarket of the same name in order to help fund and award grants to charities and services, handing out over £29m to groups across Britain so far.

David Scott, Morrisons Foundation Trustee said, “Morrisons is committed to helping the most vulnerable in our society.

"We know that the coronavirus outbreak presents a particular risk to homeless people and I'm delighted that the Morrisons Foundation has been able to help fund Simon Community Scotland’s vital work."
