A KILLER armed with a blade after locking himself out his flat was given a three-year jail sentence today.

Kevin Caughey, 38, was snared drunk with the knife at 5.20am by officers in Glasgow’s Blairdardie area in March this year.

Caughey was on license at the time for a 2015 culpable homicide conviction for his part in the killing of Scott McGuire, 41, at a suspension bridge near the city’s Carlton Place.

Mr McGuire had earlier been repeatedly struck with a knife before hitting his head off a rock as he fell in the River Clyde.

Caughey was locked up at the time for eight years and one month.

He is now back behind bars after admitting at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the unlawful possession of a knife.

A hearing was told Caughey stated to officers he was the owner of the flat and had lost his keys.

It was soon found he had breached the conditions of his release.

Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “He was arrested and searched.

“Officers found keys to the flat and a black handled kitchen knife was recovered from his sock.”

Roberto Manini, defending, said the killer was “so stupid” in the way he tried to re-enter the flat.

Caughey will face no extra time in prison as his latest conviction will run concurrently to the culpable homicide sentence which expires in September 2022.
