LIVES are being put at risk by “reckless bikers” who are causing chaos in and around Faifley.

That’s the view of residents, and politicians have been in touch with the Post following weeks of disruption in the community.

Councillor John Mooney, who lives in Faifley, said the behaviour is more than a nuisance and presents a clear and present danger.

He added: “Unregistered off road bikes are regularly being used on road and off road at speed and often recklessly.

“The level of disrespect for the community showed by the perpetrators, especially during the current emergency, is breath-taking.”

Meanwhile, the town’s MSP, Gil Paterson, said the bikers are putting their own and members of the public’s lives at risk with their “hazardous stunts and dangerous driving in the streets”.

Mr Paterson added: “I have been in touch with constituents and the police over the matter of dirt bikers causing chaos on the streets in Faifley and beyond, and I am seeking to highlight this to the public to help catch those responsible.

“Not only do they pose a risk to life, but they are causing havoc for residents who have to endure the noise and disorder this driving causes.

“While I am glad to be aware of the problems, the first port of call should be the police – not housing associations, councillors or parliamentary offices, which has often been the case.”

The MSP is urging members of the public to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to report biker incidents as they are ongoing, the identities of bikers or where they keep their bikes.

Allan Dickson, Inspector at Clydebank police station, told the Post: “The local police and road policing unit are aware of and investigating the current issue with off road bikes being used in a dangerous and inconsiderate manner.

“We would echo Mr Paterson’s plea for the public to report any information they may have on the bikers and the bikes used.

“The answer to this issue lies within the local Faifley community, there are people who live in Faifley who know who these bikers are and where they store their bikes and we would urge them to get in contact with us.”

A Hardgate resident also raised the issue with the Post.

They said: “Families with young children, cyclists, and dog walkers who are walking on Cochno Road as part of their daily exercise are being put at risk by these bikers, especially now during lockdown when there are more people out and about.

“Everyone has enough on going on at the moment without this additional problem.”
