POLICE were called to Penilee last night after they received a report of a crowd of young people outside a community centre.

The Glasgow Times, however, understands that the youngsters were holding a vigil for a much-loved teenager in the area - and the cops were called in.

Residents took to social media to question the 999 response in an area near the community centre.

The force confirmed their attendance around 8 pm last night and added that they issued advice to those gathering.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Officers attended and advised those there on physical distancing guidance. No fines were given."

Since lockdown phase one was implemented last week, the advice from the Scottish Government has been that two households are allowed to meet in an outdoor space with up to eight people in attendance. During any gathering, physical distancing, and hygiene must be maintained.
