FOOTAGE from the scene of a fire on an industrial site shows flames leaping from a building.

The blaze is currently raging in a site off Chartwell Road in Lancing.

An enormous plume of smoke is wafting into the air, with Brighton and Hove residents saying they can see the large black cloud from more than seven miles away.

Witnesses reported hearing an explosion as the fire began to spread.

A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We are dealing with a large fire in an industrial area off Chartwell Road in Lancing.

"We have eight fire engines and the aerial ladder platform in attendance.

"Please avoid the area for the time being, and if you live nearby please keep your windows and doors closed.

"Officers from Sussex Police are supporting us at the scene and have closed a number of roads surrounding the industrial estate.

"Please avoid the area for the time being."
