A West End hairdresser has said the business is 'ready to open'.

Ellen Conlin on Hyndland Road has set a provisional date of June 30 and is open for online bookings but said the timeline would be 'subject to change'.

The Scottish Government said in response that hairdressers will not be permitted to re-open until phase three of the route map out of lockdown. According to reports the earliest date for this is July 9.

Details of phase two are due to be unveiled next week.

A spokeswoman added that any businesses that fail to comply with regulations could be subject to prohibition notices and fines.

Foreign secretary, Mr Raab has said hairdressers, pubs and restaurants south of the border may be able to re-open on July 4 at the “very earliest”.

A statement on Ellen Conlin's website reads: "The latest government update suggests that we may be able to open at the end of the month.

"We are keeping very close communications with the Hairdressing Council and the National Hairdressing & Beauty Federation who speak directly with the government.

"We can't wait to welcome all our clients back to the salon, but there's going to be some changes to the way we do things, and we want you to know that we have the safety and wellbeing of both our staff and customers as our priority.

"We will open from 9.30am - 730pm Tuesday - Friday and 9am - 6pm on a Saturday in an effort to accomodate everyone.

"Both clients and staff will be issued with PPE and 2 metre Social Distancing will be carried out in the salon at all times.

The salon was one of a number of businesses that spoke to the Glasgow Times last month about the changes it has put in place to help ensure clients and staff are protected from Covid-19.

Ken Main, joint owner, said: “We will need to work at half speed. Instead of having 15 people in at one time, we will have five in, maybe even less in alternative seats.

“We have screens for the back wash so there is no contact splashes.

“We have 2m gaps on the floor and brushes and combs will need to be sanitised before and after every service as will dryers, as will seats, door handles, plugs.

“We will also be doing staggered appointments."

It is thought to be one of the first salons in Scotland to set a provisional date for re-opening.

A Scottish Government spokeswoman said: "“The route map states that hairdressers will be permitted to open in Phase 3, providing adequate distancing and hygiene measures are in place.

"Hair salons should remain closed for public health reasons.

"Businesses or individuals that fail to comply are breaking the law and could be subject to prohibition notices and fines.”

A spokeswoman for the NHFB said: "In England it is still the proposed date of 4th July.

"There has been no other indication at this present time that the England date will be earlier, and we’ve not heard of any date as yet from the Scottish government."

Celebrity hair stylist Michael Van Clarke revealed his London Soho salon already has a 3,000 waitlist for when they re-open in July.
