AN amateur football club is helping motivate young players in an impoverished area of the world more tha 4000 miles away.

Paisley based Stanley Athletic has forged a long-term partnership with Albertine FC, an African side from the Rwenzori region of Uganda.

The club will be supplying the team with football kits and training equipment over the coming years and the partnership will see Albertine FC rebranded as Rwenzori Stanley FC.

Jamie Wilson, club manager, said: “After donating a brand new set of strips to our old school last year, we wanted to do something on a bigger scale.

Glasgow Times:

“We were well aware of the work that charities like Kits4Causes do but we wanted to do things differently and Kits4Causes were luckily able to help with that.

“They put us in touch with Mr Eryeza of Albertine FC and after weeks of discussions we are finally at a point where we can confirm the launch of Rwenzori Stanley FC.”

Kasiringi Eryeza, Chief Executive of Rwenzori Stanley, said: “Quality of kit and equipment is a big problem for teams in our region.

“We believe the smarter you look, the more professional you look and there can be no doubt that it motivates and encourages players to be more determined.

“That’s why we are confident that this partnership is going to make Rwenzori Stanley one of the best clubs in the region.”
