A GLASGOW councillor has urged action to ensure ethnic minority groups are better protected if there is a second wave of Covid-19.
A number of separate studies have that concluded that people from those communities have been particularly badly hit by the virus in numbers.
Soryia Siddique, councillor for Southside Central, has called on the council to investigate the city’s incidence rates
She said: “Glasgow City Council must investigate the disproportionate impact of Covid19, qualify and quantify the factors and develop a clear action plan to ensure all Glaswegians have equal opportunity, quality of life and life chances.”
Councillor Jen Layden, City Convener for Community Empowerment, Equalities and Human Rights, said: “Addressing equality issues is central to our renewal and recovery work.
“We are already working with the BME community and the Glasgow Equalities Forum about priority areas as the city recovers.
“This work will help us address a wide range of issues and ultimately improve health and wellbeing outcomes for all our communities in Glasgow.”
