Police have arrested and charged a 38-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman in connection with two alleged burglaries and the theft of a car in Clydebank.

The first incident allegedly took place on Queen Mary Crescent on the morning of Monday, June 8.

Police say a second incident took place at a property in Melfort Court in the early hours of Thursday, June 11 in which a silver Honda Civic was stolen, along with a handbag, purse and other items from inside the house itself.

The Post understands the Civic was located in Hood Street at around 7.30pm on Thursday.

Detective Sergeant Peter Jarvis, from Clydebank CID, told the Post: “We can confirm that a 36-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man have been arrested and charged in connection with two housebreakings in Clydebank earlier this week.

"The incidents reportedly took place in the Queen Mary Crescent and Melfort Court areas on Monday, 8 June, and Thursday, 11 June, respectively.

"The man and woman are expected to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday, 15 June."

Area Commander Chief Inspector Scott Carlin said: “These arrests are as a result of the vigilance of local people reporting suspicious behaviour and I am grateful to the community for their continued support.

“We remain committed to dealing with criminality in our communities and I would encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to contact police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.

“The man and woman involved in this incident were arrested by police and held in custody to appear at court with all of the circumstances being reported to the procurator fiscal.”
