Two police officers have been seriously injured after they were approached by a man, 25, with a bladed weapon in Wishaw. 

The officers were responding to a separate incident on Greenfield Drive when the man approached them. 

One of the constables, 24, had his hand slashed by the blade causing a serious injury. 

The other cop, 23, suffered a serious head injury.

Both were taken to University Hospital Wishaw but are believed to be in stable condition. 

The 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the incident. 

Police Scotland continue to investigate the incident.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “A 25-year-old man has been arrested after two police officers were seriously assaulted in Lanarkshire.

“The response officers were dealing with a separate incident returning a 10-year-old boy to an address on Greenfield Drive, Wishaw, when they were approached by the 25-year-old.

“One of the constables, aged 24, suffered a serious injury to his hand caused by a bladed weapon and the other constable, aged 23, suffered a serious head injury.

“Both men were taken to the University Hospital Wishaw where they remain in a stable condition.

The 25-year-old has been arrested and enquiries remain ongoing.”
