OUTDOOR sports facilities offering golf, tennis and lawn bowls will begin reopening in the city this week.

Charity Glasgow Life confirmed that Knightswood and Lethamhill golf courses, Kelvingrove, Queen’s Park, and Drumchapel tennis courts and Kelvingrove, Queen’s Park, and Knightswood bowling greens will begin welcoming sports enthusiasts back from Thursday.

It is understood that staffing levels have been increased at the popular sites but the public will not be able to access changing rooms and toilets for the time being.

Anyone wanting to attend the facilities has to book in advanced.

Councillor David McDonald, chair of Glasgow Life, said: “I am delighted people in Glasgow are getting the chance to use these public facilities again as restrictions start to ease.

“It has been an unprecedented time and understandably, people in the city are keen to get outside and enjoy exercising again with others.

“This is an important aspect of Glasgow Life’s work as a charity delivering culture, sport, and learning to everyone in the city.”

Billy Garrett, director of Sport and Events at Glasgow Life added: “The health and safety of the general public and our staff is always our first priority.

“We have developed new arrangements to operate these golf courses, tennis courts, and bowling greens as safely as possible. This has involved changing previous practices, and we ask for the patience and co-operation of all users.

“Pre-booking is now essential in order to manage the number of people using out facilities at any one point. We have also created social distancing and hygiene protocols for playing which have been added to the Glasgow Life website.

“All facilities will have additional staff on-site to provide support and advice for users and to ensure social distancing is maintained.”
