A MAN was arrested after two police officers were attacked.

The two cops were returning a 10-year-old boy to an address when it is claimed they were approached by a man.

One officer, 24, was slashed with a blade on his hand and the other, 23, suffered a serious head injury during the attack on Greenfield Drive yesterday night. 

The 25-year-old who is accused of approaching the two officers at around 10.15pm on Sunday was arrested and charged. He will appear before Hamilton Sheriff Court tomorrow.

The two policemen were taken to University Hospital Wishaw, where the head injury victim was later released. The other officer remains in the hospital in a stable condition.
The area's top cop commended the two officers' bravery and professionalism and wished them a speedy recovery. 

Chief Inspector Mark Leonard, local area commander, said: "Both officers were simply doing their job and suddenly found themselves dealing with an incident that was completely unexpected.

"Every police officer knows the circumstances of every incident they attend could change quickly and they are well trained to deal with this. However, the reality of the situation requires a great amount of alertness, professionalism and bravery. I would like to praise them for that.

"I have spoken to both officers to wish them a speedy recovery and passed on our best wishes from everyone in Lanarkshire Division."
