A MAN smuggled into the UK by human traffickers and who was caught red-handed in a cannabis factory was jailed today for 15 months.

Yu Pin Din Lin, 39, was snared by police with over 18 kilos of the drug at his house in Paisley, Renfrewshire, last December.

Lin hid the cannabis in bags which were found inside a suitcase and lying on his bedroom floor.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard some of the drugs were packed in various smaller units from nine grams to 510 grams.

Other drug paraphernalia such as scales were also retrieved from the property on Well Street.

Lin was arrested and charged before being held in custody to pleaded guilty to supplying cannabis.

Prosecutor Mark Allan told the court the value of the cannabis ranged between £20-30,000.

Lawyer, Ron McKenna, defending, told the court Lin arrived in the UK illegally in 2017 by human trafficking.

He added: “His position is he wasn’t in control of what was in the flat.

“He shouldn’t have done it and he knew what he was doing was illegal.

“His level of involvement was at a basic level and was a courier.”

Sheriff Ian Fleming told Lin that he was a “victim to an extent” but imposed a prison sentence to due to the “significant amount of drugs.”
