There were still six appliances dealing with the incident at 6.30am on Friday morning.

There were no reports of any injuries.

It is not yet known what caused the explosion, but plumes of black smoke could be seen for miles last night.

Local councillor Allan Casey said the fire appeared to have started from a site that houses waste closeby.

He tweeted: "I understand there has been a loud explosion in the Dennistoun area."

Area Commander Roddie Keith said: “This has undoubtedly been a technically challenging and protracted incident, and crews have worked through difficult conditions to contain the fire and prevent further damage or fire spread.
