A TRAVEL firm could move its operations in Glasgow to England putting 200 jobs at risk.

Travel 2’s Glasgow office in Finnieston is set to join travel company Gold Medal and move its operations down south if a merger of companies is accepted by staff.

Travel 2 is a worldwide tour operator that works with travel agents to plan holidays.

Travel 2 was bought by dnata Travel Group in 2014, an airport services company based in Dubai. The merger would see Travel 2 operate under Gold Medal’s name and move its business to Lancashire in England.

A Travel 2 spokesman: “We can confirm that today, Travel 2 staff were informed that we have commenced a consultation process over proposed changes to the business which could see the brand’s office at Elliot Place, Glasgow, close.

“We will be working closely with them in the coming weeks as the proposals are discussed and offering all the support we can to those who could be impacted.”

In March, dnata began a widespread review of its business in response to the effect coronavirus has had on the travel industry.

Dnata refused to comment on job losses, saying: “We are not sharing numbers at this stage as this is a consultation process and we have to avoid influencing the outcome or suggesting it is already determined.

“It is also worth stressing that we anticipate, as a result of the consultation to be creating some home working roles for the team currently there. Although, again, at this stage we can’t say exactly how many.”
