Officers have joined Glasgow City Council is warning the public that drinking alcohol in the city's park is banned.

An increase in antisocial behaviour "often fuelled by alcohol" was reported by Police Scotland, amid calls to keep Kelvingrove Park "a safe space for everyone".

On Friday, Glasgow City Council warned that there have been no changes to Glasgow's bylaws which prohibit drinking alcohol in outdoor public spaces.

Area Inspector Paul Daley said: "Kelvingrove Park should be a safe space for everyone, however, recently, we have seen an increase in antisocial behaviour, caused by a minority of people.

"This is often fuelled by alcohol, and this is simply not acceptable.

"I would like to remind people that Glasgow City Council bylaws prohibit the drinking of alcohol in the park.

"Officers will be patrolling this weekend to deal with any antisocial behaviour.

"I would also appeal to parents to know where their children are this weekend, who they are with and what they are doing.

"To premises selling alcohol, please be mindful of who you are selling it to.

"Let's all work together to keep Kelvingrove Park safe and welcoming for all."
