A 22-year-old man has been rushed to hospital after an attack on Dixon Street.
Emergency services currently attend the scene, where several areas in the city centre have been closed off by the force.
Cordones have been put up in areas including Dixon Street, St Enoch's Square and Adam's Court.
Medics attend the scene as the investigation continues.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A report was received of a disturbance on St Enoch's Square in Glasgow shortly before 2.45pm on Tuesday, 23 June.
"A 22-year-old man was found injured and has been taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.
"Enquiries are ongoing and at an early stage. Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1869 of 23 June or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
