Cassillis Castle, an impressive 13-bedroom property complete with library, cinema and ballroom, is on the market for offers over £3.9 million.

Located deep in the heart of Ayrshire, the five-floor property was once home to the Earls of Cassillis, but could now be yours for just under four million pounds.

The castle dates back to as early as the 14th century, but recent refurbishments have taken the historical landmark into modern-day times without losing the charm of its original features.

Derived from the Gaelic caiseal, Cassillis means ‘stone fort’, an apt name for the building which towers over the River Doon and the surrounding Ayrshire countryside.

In ‘The Fortified House in Scotland’, a series of books written by Scottish author Nigel Tranter between 1962 and 1970, he describes the castle’s turbulent history of “violence, savagery, and sudden death.”

But now this building steeped in history is looking to the future, as it awaits its next occupants.
