A MAJOR employer in Glasgow and Bishopbriggs has announced it is closing those bases to move to another town.

Insurance firm Aviva, who employs around 1,200 people in Bishopbriggs alone, said it will move to the Maxim Business Park in Motherwell from July 2021.

In a statement, the firm said the move does not affect jobs.

Aviva said: "Aviva has today, June 23, confirmed that it will be moving both of its Glasgow operations (Bishopbriggs and St Vincent Street) to a new site at Maxim Business Park, from July 2021.

"The move enables Aviva to create one, efficient site and continue its presence in Glasgow.

"Aviva will continue to provide its people with greater flexibility to achieve a work-life balance while still enjoying the benefits of having an office environment available when needed.

"The decision to move to a new location in Glasgow does not affect employee roles and is based on having one efficient office space.

"Aviva is working closely with its Glasgow employees to ensure a smooth transition to the new office space.”

East Dunbartonshire Councillor Alan Moir described the decision as a 'devastating blow' on social media.
