BUS services are to be expanded across Glasgow as lockdown is eased.

First Bus will increase the frequency of services on most routes, where wearing a face mask will be mandatory.

Services will ramp up from Monday, June 29 and First Bus has welcomed increased funding from the Scottish government to support public transport.

Buses will remain operating at a reduced capacity to allow for physical distancing within vehicles.

The sector is currently looking forward to a £47m boost from the government to allow them to operate with lower numbers of passengers on buses.

Some weekend services are also to be increased.

Andrew Jarvis, Managing Director at First Glasgow: “We welcome the additional funding from Transport Scotland, which will enable us to increase services and support the continued wellbeing of our customers and drivers through ensuring safe travel on our buses. This is critical as more employees start returning to work following the government’s announcement that some non-essential shops can reopen on June 29.

“All our vehicles are now fitted with measures to ensure that customers who need to travel can adhere to the Government physical distancing guidelines. This includes signage to advise customers on where to sit to keep a safe distance and new technology to help drivers monitor the number of people on board at any one time."
