A THUG who stabbed a man in a Boxing Day pub brawl has been jailed on Friday for 21 months.

Gary Scott, 30, assaulted Peter Miller at the 100 Acre Bar in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, in December 2018.

Scott had earlier been the victim of a bottle attack and retaliated by striking Mr Miller with the blade.

Scott was convicted by a jury at Glasgow Sheriff Court in March of an assault to Mr Miller’s severe injury.

Callum Weir, defending, told the court alcohol resulted in “factors escalating.”

Mr Weir added: “Mr Scott hasn’t tried to escape his responsibilities.

“He is aware that a custodial sentence is going to be realistic.”

Sheriff Alan Mackenzie told Scott, of Rutherglen, that no other sentence could be imposed due to the gravity of the offence.

He said: “You struck another man on the body with a knife to his severe injury.

“I recognise this was against the background of a particular set of circumstances and wasn’t a random attack.”
