GLASGOW has hit back at "disgusting" tweets from Nigel Farage blaming today's incident on "illegal immigrants".
The Brexit Party leader wrongly declared the Park Inn Hotel was housing illegal immigrants in the wake of six people being rushed to hospital.
In reality, one hundred asylum seekers reside in the hotel.
A man was shot dead by police officers at the scene on West George Street this afternoon as cops shutdown the city centre.
Mr Farage wrote: "Horrible tragedy in a Glasgow Hotel housing illegal immigrants."
Glasgow councillor Allan Casey was among those to respond, calling the remarks "absolutely disgusting".
Councillor Eva Murray also responded, writing: "Away back under your rock Nigel and take your far-right bs with you.
"Refugees and Asylum Seekers will always be welcome in our city, unlike you."
Councillor Mhairi Hunter wrote: "Nigel Farage does not give a damn about Glasgow and we should return the compliment and stop retweeting him."
Former Glasgow MP Paul Sweeney added: "Asylum seekers aren't 'illegal immigrants'. They're people fleeing from the most brutal conditions in the world.
"Moving asylum seekers out of flats and concentrating them in hotels during lockdown has been been about saving money.
"Don't manipulate our city for your racist agenda."
Others were less restrained. Political consultant Alan Rodden wrote: "P**s off."
While Kieran O'Neill added: "Aw f**k off you racist b*****d."
Academic Gerry Hassan wrote: "Nigel Farage is a miniature wannabe Trump.
"He knows (nothing) about Glasgow, Scotland or being humanitarian, decent and compassionate.
"By the way, as a basic fact for Farage: asylum seekers are not & never have been 'illegal immigrants'."
MSP Anas Sarwar wrote: "Seriously Mr Farage. Don’t use a tragedy in our city to spread your fear and hatred.
"Glasgow has seen your kind before and always sent a united message- 'get yerself tae f...!'."
Ako Zada, of Kurdish Scottish Association, had earlier confirmed the living situation in the hotel.

He said: "There are around 100 asylum seekers in the hotel.
"There has been many complaints about being kept inside and having no money.
"People have uncertainties and many have mental health problems and depression. The situation is shocking.
"Some of these people have severe mental health problems."
