A MAN caught with a knife claimed he had disarmed one of four men he who apparently attacked him.
Michael Carroll, 31, was snared with the blade in Glasgow’s Royston area in May this year.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard officers arrived due to reports of a disturbance of men with blades..
Carroll was spotted by himself leaving a shop when approached.
Prosecutor Amanda Gallagher said: “He threw a black jumper and black handled kitchen knife to the floor.”
He told officers when quizzed: “I took that from them, they assaulted me with it.”
Jason Beltrami, defending, told the court “trouble had come to” Carroll who was on a curfew at the time.
He said: “He was pursued by four men who were armed with knives.
“He restrained one and was injured during the fight.
“The men ran away when the police arrived but he accepts he was in possession of the knife.”
Sheriff Sean Murphy QC told Carroll that a custodial sentence was inevitable as he locked him up for 16 months due to his “significant record.”
