Churches across Clydebank have reopened their doors for private prayer in line with Scottish Government guidance.

Among the local churches now open is St Margaret’s Church, in Whitecrook, which is open from 10am-2pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with members expected to wear a face mask.

Communal services are not yet permitted at any churches in Scotland.

Father Tartaglia of St Margaret’s advised on Facebook: “Enter by the door close to the presbytery and leave by the other door.

“Benches have been cordoned off to ensure safe distancing. Someone will be there to assist.

“Please follow their instructions joyfully.”

Elsewhere, parishioners at St Mary’s in Duntocher are being instructed to enter from the side door of the church if they want to use the building for private prayer, and to apply hand sanitiser as they enter the building.

Those entering the building for private prayer will be required to supply their name and telephone number for ‘track and trace’ purposes.

Many churches of all denominations are continuing to stream mass and Sunday services live online and via social media.

An update on when Scotland’s churches might be able to resume communal worship is expected later this month, though current indications are that the green light will not be given until July 23 at the earliest.
