YOUNG people from the South Side of Glasgow will soon be able to attend activity nights and support services following a spate of tragic deaths.

Glasgow Life will be running a Friday night activity initiative at Nethercraigs on Corkerhill Road.

Meanwhile, a youth support drop-in service will be available for youngsters at Penilee Community Centre.

A youth detached and outreach service will also be set-up.

All three will be running for a temporary fixed period following discussions with local councillors.

Cardonald councillor Alex Wilson said: “We’ve all be saddened by the tragic suicides locally and this has demonstrated a need for additional youth based work and mental health support for young people in our area.

“Having grown up and gone to school in Cardonald I know how close the community is and I hope this new initiative will be welcomed.

“Officers from Glasgow Life, Glasgow City Council and the HSCP are continuing to meet to work out the finer details of this plan and I will be able to provide more information shortly.”
