TWO brothers attacked a man in a busy Co-op supermarket with a bottle of Buckfast and a can of Tennent’s lager.

Craig Fox was left with permanent disfigurement when William Darroch, 37, and brother Jamie Darroch, 36, pounced on him in the Rutherglen Main Street branch in January this year.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard the pair chased Mr Fox while clutching the bottle and the can.

Prosecutor Adele Macdonald told the court there was shouting and swearing before the 39-year-old was cornered.

She added: “Both Jamie and William Darroch punched and kicked Mr Fox to the face and body.

“They struck him with a bottle of Buckfast and a can of Tennent’s lager.”

The pair left the store and Mr Fox quickly followed them without visible injuries.

The Darrochs were later traced nearby by police and found to have “serious injuries to their head and faces.”

They were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

The court heard that Mr Fox was later traced at Wishaw General Hospital.

Mr Fox received two wounds to the side of his head which required stitches.

The court was also told the injuries will leave permanent scarring.

William Darroch pleaded guilty today to the assault to Mr Fox’s severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Jamie Darroch pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

Lawyer John McLaughlin told the court Mr Fox was known to the Darrochs with whom he has a history.

Sentence for both men was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Joan Kerr.

William Darroch, also of Rutherglen, had his bail continued meantime.
