GARY McALLISTER has given a transfer update on Rangers' pursuit of South African midfielder Bongani Zungu.

The Rangers No2 admits the club are monitoring the the Amiens star's situation, but he is adament that there are other players on the club's radar.

He said: “We know who Zungu is but our recruitment in bringing players to the club is ongoing.

“We’ve been speaking about hordes of players since lockdown.

“We are constantly on the lookout for players who can come into our team and make it better.”

McAllister also provided an injury update on Allan McGregor and Filip Helander who missed out on yesterday's friendly clash against Lyon.

He added: “Greegs is fit but he’s had a couple of pre-season niggles and Helander is the same.

“Filip has a little problem and wasn’t ready to play. But he should be fine for the start of the season.

“Jon McLaughlin came in and knowing and seeing Jon for a long time, he’s a steady Eddie.

“I thought he was very calm and made good decisions tonight.

“Lyon had one chance over the top getting in behind but Jon made an experienced decision and played with the striker’s mind.

“He could easily have committed himself and conceded a penalty.”
