GLASGOW businesses have been putting their weight behind the 'Scotland Loves Local' campaign, which aims to support  local businesses post lockdown.

'Scotland Loves Local' was launched by Scotland's Towns Partnership and will urge people to look closer to home as lifted restrictions have allowed non-essential stores to open for the first time in four months.

It launches as the Glasgow Times backs the Local Love Campaign as this week we called on all businesses in the city to contact us to appear in our free listings service.

We also asked you to get in touch if you want to appear in one of our business profile.

One business that has backed the  Local Love Campaign is KeyStore on Anniesland's Fulton Street, a 20-year-old family-run business.

Jazz Lalli, who currently runs the shop, says : “It really is important that people shop local. People would be surprised by how much we have in store.

"We enjoy being here and are part of the community. We do a lot for the community, supporting fundraising and food banks.”

Billy Milligan, who owns the Finsbay and F Pizza restaurants in Milngavie, also backs the scheme.

His businesses, which he runs with with business partners Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg and former Glasgow Warriors skipper Alastair Kellock, employ around 30 to 40 people in the local area.

He said: “The togetherness of the community has been particularly apparent during Covid.

"People have stood together to support local businesses. Hospitality can be tough going, but during Covid I think the value of the businesses has shone through.”.

Phil Prentice, chief officer of Scotland’s Towns Partnership, said: “The impact of coronavirus has hit local businesses hard. That’s as true in and around Glasgow as it is anywhere else.

"We’re launching the Scotland Loves Local campaign to encourage the support they need to get back on their feet in a way which recognises that we still need to stay safe and follow the public health guidelines."

Aileen Campbell, MSP for Clydesdale and Communities Secretary, said: "Simple steps like choosing to visit a nearby shop or café, or buying goods or services from a business in your own community, helps support jobs and goes a long way to fostering the vibrant selection of products and services on offer close to home.

“By following the public health advice, we can all make exploring what the neighbourhood has to offer as safe as possible.
