THE Scottish Government has said they are doing all they can to catch up on the backlog of postponed operations in Greater Glasgow and Clyde following calls from a local MSP to deal with the “huge” backlog.
Maurice Golden MSP highlighted figures from ISD Scotland showing that between March and May this year only 5,654 planned operations took place in Greater Glasgow and Clyde – 13,084 less than in the same period last year.
But a government spokesperson said the ISD figures “measure activity, including the number of scheduled and cancelled operations”.
The government spokesperson added: “As the pandemic eases and the health service continues to gradually re-open, we will do we all we can to support health boards to catch up on any outpatient and inpatient treatment that have been postponed, while also being able to respond to ongoing Covid-19 requirements as necessary.”
