CATHCART Baptist Church are hosting a free school uniform exchange on Friday.

The event will run from 1:30pm to 3pm, with clothes available for no charge to parents.

Joyce Holloway, a member of Cathcart Baptist Church, said: “It is very challenging time and a few of us in the church were wondering what we could do to help.

“We had a very successful toy bank exchange about a month ago now and so we thought that we could use that idea to help out families as the school term approached.”

Uniforms from the surrounding schools, including Merrylee Primary School, are up for grabs, as well as plain coloured and generic uniform items such as white shirts and summer dresses for those in other schools around Glasgow.

The drive will also have items such as school bags and shoes available, as well as hosting a toy bank on the day.

Joyce said: “We had been accepting donations until Monday, which allowed us to quarantine the clothes for a minimum of 72 hours to make sure that they are safe to pass along to another family.

“On the day we will also have safety measures in place including hand sanitising, a one way system and an organised limit on the amount of people in at the same time.

“Often you find that parents hold off until the last minute in summer to buy clothes because children grow quickly and they don’t want to waste the money.

“You could be a parent with two or three kids and need those extra few pieces, or even as backup for clothes that will inevitably be grown out of.

“There are so many high quality pieces of uniform, absolutely anyone is welcome.”
