Eat Out to Help Out, the UK government scheme to kickstart the economy in the wake of the pandemic, begins on Monday 3rd August.

This initiative is deigned to encourage diners to eat out at restaurants and in return they will benefit from a 50% discount, up to £10 per person.

This discount takes place during any Monday-Wednesday throughout August.

Diners can find restaurants taking part by looking for the white “Eat Out to Help Out” logo found on the windows of restaurants.

You may be wondering which restaurants are involved, so here are 15 restaurants where you can Eat Out to Help Out in Glasgow.

City Centre

1. Café Wander – This vibrant café located on West George Street serves up a tasty breakfast menu alongside some cakes and sandwiches for lunch. Located in the heart of the city centre, this is a must-see pit stop for a lunchtime snack. Throughout August, Café Wander will be offering the 50% discount on a soup and sandwich meal deal at £3.75 and a full breakfast for only £5.73.

2. Chaakoo Bombay Café – The city centre Indian delight will be partaking in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, alongside its west end counterpart. Chaakoo will be offering up to £10 per person on all food and non-alcoholic drinks, commencing from Monday 3rd August. You can find it on Saint Vincent Street near George Square.

3. German Doner Kebab – All the way from Germany comes this restaurant specialising in kebabs cooked to perfection. Step inside for 50% off the finest doner kebabs, burgers and wraps. This treat can be found halfway down Renfield Street.

4. Red Onion – This award winning restaurant serves up modern interpretations of classic Scottish cookery, and brings old dishes into the 21st century. Located at 257 West Campbell Street, Red Onion will be offering 50% off a huge selection of their menu including full three course meals. These meals come complete with soup for the starter, sizzling steak or fishcakes, topping it all off with a succulent ice cream dessert or fruity snack.

5. Barca Tapas - A taste of Barcelona in Glasgow, Barca Tapas specialises in authentic Spanish cuisine. Located on the 2nd floor of Princes Square, this Spanish restaurant will be offering the 50% Eat Out discount on all its menus, excluding alcohol.

6. The Willow Tea Rooms – A famous little restaurant located on Buchanan Street at the forefront of Glasgow’s high end shopping, the Willow Tea Rooms has always been a hit with shoppers. The Tea Rooms will be dropping their whole menu down by 50%, but they highly recommend their afternoon tea.

7. Ivy – Found amongst the high end shops and bustle on Buchanan Street, Ivy delivers food from across the world. Dishes such as burgers and steaks can easily be found next to pasta and curry. Ivy also boasts a private dining room for lavish meals and high end wines. Throughout August, Ivy will be offering 50% discount on all food and soft drinks, up to £10 per person. This deal will also extend to Ivy’s new menu featuring dishes such as “Yellowfin tuna carpaccio, Lobster linguine and the famous melting chocolate bombe.”

West End

1. Hillhead Bookclub – Located in the scenic West End of Glasgow opposite the Botanic Gardens, Hillhead Bookclub is a retro high end restaurant which deals in food but also computer games and ping pong. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, diners can cash in their Eat Out to Help Out discount on Wednesdays for their food bill.

2. Atrium Coffee House – Found on Cresswell Street, the coffee shop will be encouraging diners to use their discount Monday-Wednesday but exclusively for sit in dining. A wide range of coffees and light snacks can be found here, just near Byres Road and the Hillhead subway station.

3. Bothy – Specialising in traditional Scottish meals, the Bothy reinvigorates Scottish dishes and brings it into the modern day. A real hidden gem tucked away in a quiet cobbled street, the Bothy reopens on Wednesday 5th August, and will be offering the half price discount every Wednesday in August. Located across the street from Hillhead Subway Station, the Bothy can be found on Ruthven Lane.

4. Ka Pao – Tucked away on Vinicombe Street, Ka Pao focuses on South East Asian cuisine, drawing inspiration from the flavours of Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand. Ka Pao provides a cosy dining experience, situated in a basement of an old garage, and tasty dishes from across Asia. They will be taking part of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme by slashing their prices by 50% throughout August.

South Side and East Renfrewshire

1. The Rum Shack – On the other side of the Clyde lies the Rum Shack, a Caribbean inspired restaurant with a tremendous rum selection. The diner also boasts a dance floor and live music events. Enjoy a wide selection of dishes ranging from coconut king prawns to jerk chicken & chips, all for half price. This taste of the Caribbean can be found on Pollokshaws Road, next to Queens Park station.

2. Church on the Hill – A keen sports bar featuring plasma screen televisions for the most exciting games, Church on the Hill can be found on Algie Street at one end of Queens Park. A traditional pub grub restaurant, all the pub classics can be found here – fish and chips, pie of the day and a bacon cheeseburger all await you arriving here. Church on the Hill will be taking part in the Government scheme, reducing their prices to half price for the month of August.

East End

1. Van Winkle – An east end BBQ and Grill haven located on Gallowgate, Van Winkle is slashing their prices for all their food and soft drinks, commencing on August 3rd. Van Winkle, and their city centre sister shop Mharsanta, will be joining the Eat Out to Help Out scheme on Monday-Wednesday and can be found at 267 Gallowgate.

Glasgow North/Outskirts

1. Lion and Star – The Kirkintilloch delight known for their 35oz Tomahawk steak, Lion and Star will be taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. Found north of the city on Townhead, Kirkintilloch, this restaurant will be offering the discount Monday-Wednesday to anybody booking a table throughout the month of August
