THE mum of a teenager who died after taking his own life has said she is now “just a shadow” of the person she used to be following her loss.

Paul Quinn, 19, passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning.

His mum Christine Cunningham said her son was always “full of laughter” and will “forever be her baby boy”.

The 38-year-old paid tribute to her son.

She said: “He loved his family and friends and wasn’t shy like other teenagers are to give us a kiss, tell us he loved us or even lie in our arms.

"His friends said he was the life and soul of the party.

“I’m now a shadow of the person I used to be.

"I broke and I will never be the same again.”

The teenager, from Cardonald, took his own life just five weeks after a close friend of his died.

His mum said he lived with autism, ADHD, bipolar disorder, sensory impairment and attachment disorder.

Only the day before Paul’s death, she attended hospital with him following a failed suicide attempt.

Christine now wants to start a campaign calling for a change in the law regarding sectioning.

She said: “Parents and carers know their kids best so if you have a lady in front of you screaming and begging you to save her boy by sectioning him then it should be done.

“So many kids get agitated and it’s seen as aggression so then it does turn to aggression.

"There should be people trained in calming the situations and sedating the kids first if they’re in that kind of state.

“If they need sectioned they need sectioned so saying ‘We can’t it will upset him, and we think he has the potential to kick off’ just doesn’t cut it.

“Paul is not the only one that has been failed, especially in the South Side, which is why as soon as Paul’s funeral is by I will be campaigning for a change in the law regarding sectioning.”

A fundraising page has since been set up in memory of Paul with more than £1,300 already raised.

The teenager's sister-in-law Shannon wrote: “He was an amazing person.

"He had a good sense of humour and was hilarious.

"Every room he was in he would put a smile on everyone’s face.

“He was an amazing son, grandson, brother, uncle and he will be very sadly missed, we will miss him every day and night, shine bright Paul, you will never be forgotten.”
