CONSTRUCTION has started on a new Lidl store in the city’s Finnieston.

Construction firm Dickie & Moore will build the store on Finnieston Street which will create up to 40 new jobs when opened.

The store fit out is expected to take approximately three months, with a view to opening the store this winter.

The new store has an in-store bakery, 11 self-checkouts and car parking.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Gordon Rafferty, said: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to break the ground and start construction.

“We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”

Lidl now have over 100 stores in Scotland and recently opened a new Retail Distribution Centre in Motherwell.
