Friends of a man whose body was recovered from the River Clyde have started a fundraiser for the heroic river team.

Martin Ackland went missing in Glasgow last December launching a 14-week search before his body was pulled out of the water.

The 36-year-old man was described as a "larger than life character" with a passion for fundraising.

The fundraiser for The Glasgow Humane Society (GHS) was organised as a thank you for their search for Martin Ackland which spanned over more than three months.

More than £1800 has now been raised for the "selfless work" of the GHS in his memory.

The GHS plays an essential role in the preservation of life on the River Clyde and saving countless lives.

Nadine Poli who launched the fundraiser wrote about the GHS: "Their work is completely selfless and as a small thank you, I would like to raise awareness and some funds for this charity.

"Marty entered the water on December 5, 2019, many agencies searched the river continuously over a period of 14 weeks to bring Marty back to us, the GHS were true heroes throughout.

"Marty was a much-loved colleague, friend and manager to many, working within Mutual Direct for 14 years. A larger than life character who was always at the forefront of any fundraising activities.

"Any donation no matter how big or small would be massively appreciated as we carry on being Ack-tive throughout August remembering Marty as we walk those miles."
