A LOCAL businessman is urging the public to be on their guard against a scam which is circulating.
Chris Jewell received a call to his mobile phone suggesting that a tax fraud had been committed.
He immediately hung up and is advising others to do the same.
He said: "I got a message from someone purporting to be from the Inland Revenue regarding a tax fraud claim.
"The male voice sounded important.
"I just wanted to warn other people."
The number had a Manchester 0161 code but when dialled by the Telegraph it returned a 'not recognised' automated message.
