A ‘GLASGOW is open’ campaign encouraging residents to explore their own city will also target short break visitors over the coming weeks.

The city council’s culture and leisure arm, Glasgow Life, has been urging Glaswegians and day visitors to support local businesses and attractions as they reopen after lockdown.

More than 55,000 people have viewed the campaign launch film, and a series of features and blogs have been shared across PeopleMakeGlasgow channels.

Phase two of the marketing campaign is set to begin later this month when, in-line with any Scottish Government guidance, people outside the Greater Glasgow area and short break visitors will be targeted.

David McDonald, chairman of Glasgow Life and depute leader of the city council, said: “It is wonderful to see locals and day visitors once again enjoying Glasgow’s shops, restaurants, bars and attractions as well as the huge efforts made by businesses in the city centre and across Glasgow’s neighbourhoods to ensure everyone has a safe and welcoming experience.”

Residents have been encouraged to return to the city’s shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, parks and attractions.

Shopping guides, tips on how to be a tourist at home and partnership blogs with City Sightseeing Glasgow and Walking Tours in Glasgow, which are both operating again, have been shared online.

Sharon Morrison, communications director at City Sightseeing Glasgow and a member of the Glasgow Tourism and Events Response Group (GTERG), said: “The GlasgowIsOpen campaign most definitely shows how you can have an amazing staycation right here in Glasgow.”

And Ryan James, chairman of the Glasgow Restaurateurs Association and also a GTERG member, said: “This is a time for everyone to work together and the #GlasgowIsOpen campaign has really captured Glasgow’s team spirit as we welcome back local customers and day visitors to our restaurants, cafes and bars where they’ll be served up outstanding food and drink, coupled with our famous warm and friendly hospitality.”
