THIS GAME WON’T LIVE LONG IN THE MEMORY

Rangers have produced some fairly abject displays away from home during Steven Gerrard’s tenure and this was right up there on that unwanted list. The only saving grace for the fans that tuned in was that they didn’t have to travel to the Tony Macaroni Arena and pay the admission fee.

The plastic pitch here is rarely conducive to entertaining football and the defensive setup from Livingston ensured this was going to be a hard-fought encounter. It was a game of few chances and few moments of quality that is best forgotten.

LIVINGSTON DESERVED THEIR POINT

The entertainment value won’t bother Gary Holt and his players, right enough. Given the effort they put in to stifling Rangers, they were well worthy of their share of the spoils.

The Lions were able to pose Rangers few problems in an attacking sense but they were well drilled and compact in their shape as Gerrard’s side couldn’t find a way through.

Matches against the likes of Rangers won’t define Livingston’s campaign but this was a welcome point that was more than merited. It is certainly one they can now look to build on.

ANOTHER LOW KEY DISPLAY FROM IANIS HAGI

Given the immediate impression that he made when he first joined Rangers in January, it is surprising how slowly Hagi has started this season. He certainly hasn’t picked up where he left off.

On Wednesday night against St Johnstone, the Romanian was uncharacteristically slack in possession as he repeatedly gave the ball away. Whatever he tried, nothing came off.

That carried on here. Denied space and time on the ball by a battling Livingston, Hagi just couldn’t influence proceedings and it was no surprise he was replaced by Kemar Roofe before the hour mark.

A couple of poor games won’t be a major source of concern for Hagi or Gerrard, but both will be keen for normal service to be resumed as quickly as possible.
