FILMING for the new BBC drama Vigil has resumed near Glasgow.

The six-part series stars Scottish actors Martin Compston, Rose Leslie and Gary Lewis as well as actress Suranne Jones.

World Productions, who are the makers of Line of Duty and Bodyguard, have released a first look image of the new thriller.

The image, featuring Suranne and actor Shaun Evans in character as DCI Amy Silver and Chief Petty Officer Elliot Glover.

It was taken earlier this year before production was paused in line with Covid-19 guidelines - but now filming has commenced.

The series centres around the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on-board a Trident nuclear submarine which brings the police into conflict with the Navy and British security services.

Vigil was written and created by BAFTA-nominated and The Crown writer Tom Edge.

The BBC said that together with independent health and safety consultants, in full consultation with industry partners, and in accordance with all current government guidelines, the Vigil production team will adhere to comprehensive production protocols to ensure that the series is produced in a safe and responsible manner during this time of global pandemic.

Set and filmed in Scotland, the drama is supported by the National Lottery through Screen Scotland.
