Former Rangers target Bongani Zungu is set for a loan move out of Amiens.

The midfielder was a wanted man in Glasgow in recent times but interest reportedly cooled off after it was claimed he was overweight. He had even rejected a move to Celta Vigo as Gers moved to strike a deal with the Ligue 2 outfit.

Now, though, Amiens club president Bernard Joannin claims the South African will leave on loan and a deal is approaching. "Bongani Zungu has been offered to a club to go on loan," he told French publication Courrier Picard. "It's in progress."

The news comes as manager Steven Gerrard is still in the hunt for a new midfield player. The boss has made no secret of his desire to strengthen the Ibrox engine room. "We're no closer to it but it is a situation we're still analysing," he said previously.

"In terms of whether that would be us 100 per cent set and complete would depend on what goes out the door, and also what becomes available as the window goes on. I've said the majority of our business is done, but I definitely do want to add another midfielder."
