A THUG stabbed his friend on the back with a knife because he was smaller than him.

Gary Miller, 26, turned on Callum McLeod at his flat in Glasgow’s Maryhill last November.

The pair had been drinking before getting into an argument with Miller lashing out with the blade.

Glasgow Sheriff Court was told that Miller had felt threatened as Mr McLeod was taller than him.

Miller pleaded guilty today to the assault to Mr McLeod’s injury on Wyndford Road.

The court heard the argument had taken place in the living room after the pair consumed alcohol.

Prosecutor Claire Wallace said: “The accused, feeling threatened by Mr McLeod being taller than him, picked up a black handled kitchen knife and struck him to the back with one strike.

“This made contact with Mr McLeod’s upper left shoulder blade causing injury.”

Miller immediately fled the flat screaming to neighbours for an ambulance claiming “I’ve just stabbed my friend.”

He then locked his front door keeping McLeod inside due to his injury and intoxicated state.

A 999 call made and officers arrived before being confronted by a distressed Miller who made full admissions.

He said: “I done it, I stabbed him, he was out of control, he’s trashed my living room.”

Miller told officers he threw the blade out the balcony onto the ground below.

He was later arrested and stated: “I stabbed him, I panicked.”

Mr McLeod was taken to hospital meantime where he was treated with a dressing for the wound.

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Martin Jones QC.

Miller, still of the same Maryhill flat, had his bail continued meantime.
