A BIGOTED pensioner who hurled homophobic abuse at a lawyer and his partner after he saw them holding hands was admonished by a sheriff.

Peter Kerr, who branded Andrew McCusker and William Shankey-Smith “p***y b******s” and “bent” walked free from court because he had kept out of trouble for six months.

Glasgow Sherif Court heard that the 76-year-old turned on the couple - aged 30 and 31 - as they were walking in the street in Shawlands, Glasgow in January this year.

Kerr continued his tirade before being held by police.

The OAP had pleaded guilty earlier this year to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner aggravated by prejudice relating to sexual orientation.

He had been due to be sentenced last week, but the case was adjourned until Friday.

Kerr was admonished by Sheriff Valerie Mays after she heard he had been of good behaviour since pleading guilty.

A previous hearing was told the couple were together when Kerr yelled at them: “F*** sake.”

Mr McCusker believed the comment was about him and Mr Shankey Smith holding hands.

The solicitor spoke to Kerr - but the pensioner sneered: “Pair of bent b******s.”

Kerr still repeatedly hurled insults despite Mr McCusker being on phone to the police.

Prosecutor Hannah Terrance said: “The men believed what was happening was due to their sexual orientation.”

Mr McCusker slammed Kerr last week for his ‘hate and stupidity’.
