FOR most golfers, beating 12,500/1 odds and sinking a hole-in-one would be enough cause for a season’s celebration.
However, members of Kirkintilloch Golf Club have gone not once, not twice, but eight times better in just two months of play.
Players at the East Dunbartonshire course have netted a remarkable eight holes-in-one since the game returned in earnest last month.
It’s believed to be a club record for 125-year-old Kirkintilloch and has become the perfect way to celebrate the landmark anniversary.
Simon Boyle, the club’s secretary, said: “It’s so unusual to get them at that volume and usually you might expect to get four over a season, including our captain Jim MacNab on the opening weekend of the season, is remarkable.
“It’s just the golfing gods looking favourably on us! One of our par threes is a signature hole and there’s a fair chance for everyone.
“It seems to the lucky emblem for us. The odds are like 12,500/1 of any shot going in as a hole-in-one.
“So, it’s a rare thing in itself but to get so many is a bit unusual.
“Everyone was super keen to get back and everyone at the club has been very respectful of the guidance.
“People are just relieved to be back and getting to do some exercise.
“Since we came back, we’ve been incredibly busy.”
