A MAJOR road will close overnight for high mast lighting inspection works.

The A8 eastbound carriageway between Swinton Roundabout and Bargeddie Roundabout will be closed overnight, from 8pm on Thursday, September 10 until 6am on Friday, September 11.

Amey said: “These closures have been planned to take place overnight to minimise disruption to traffic, and are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst we undertake essential inspections to the lighting columns at this location.”

Signed diversion routes will be in place with motorway traffic diverted via the A8 (M) to Baillieston Roundabout, to follow the eastbound M8 to Junction 7 Eurocentral and then the westbound A8 to Bargeddie Roundabout.

Non-motorway traffic approaching Swinton roundabout will be diverted via the westbound A8 onto Edinburgh Road and then travel via Easterhouse Road/Westerhouse Road to join Lochend Road. From here, vehicles will turn onto Gartcosh Road/Cuilhill Road where the diversion will end.

These works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership (SRP) on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of the route.

These works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Glasgow City Council and North Lanarkshire Council.
