A man is fighting for his life after being seriously injured in an incident in Johnstone. 

The 33-year-old was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment and his condition is described as critical but stable. 

Officers were alerted to a disturbance at MacDowell Street around 1.40pm on Sunday, September 13. 

A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross said: "We are continuing with enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident and residents may continue to see a police presence in this area.

"We would urge anyone with information about this incident who has not yet spoken to police to get in touch as soon as possible.

"We are also carrying out enquiries into an incident in the Caldwell Avenue area of Linwood around 11am on Sunday which may be connected to this incident in Johnstone.
