Free chips will be served up in Glasgow after communities banded together to grow potatoes during lockdown.

The event, named The Harvest, will take place in the main yard of the SWG3 on September 30.

The socially-distanced and free event will celebrate community spirit and resilience seen during lockdown.

Earlier this year, 150 bags filled with soil and a batch of Maris Piper potatoes were delivered to Kelvinhaugh and Kelvindale communities.

Live audiences will be able to observe the 25-metre long production line at 4pm, 6pm and 8pm.

At the end of the line, The Turbulent Tattie, a pop-up run by Glasgow-based Nomad Street Food, will feed the audiences for free.

It marks the culmination of the award-winning An Empty Gunny Bag Cannot Stand project by Glasgow artists Angus Farquhar and Rudy Kanhye.

SWG3 director Andrew Fleming-Brown said: “Angus and Rudy have responded brilliantly to the lockdown situation, finding a truly creative and inspiring way for people to continue to work collectively in isolation.

Glasgow Times:

“We are delighted to see that the project is continuing and welcome people from across Glasgow to get involved.

“During these challenging times, it’s comforting to see that the world keeps on turning – and that, despite the challenges of social distancing, community spirit has never been stronger.”

Free tickets for strictly up to two households per table and six people in total are now available at www.swg3.tv/harvest.
