TRIBUTES have been paid to a Glasgow man who passed away on holiday in Turkey.

Anthony McDowall, believed to be 28, died suddenly in Istanbul when visiting the city. 

Officials in Turkey told The Sun he died at the scene in Hacimimi Mahallesi Karabas Street, in the Beyoglu district.

Tributes have flooded in for Anthony, known as Tony, from friends and family.

His former football club, Southside United AFC, wrote: "We are devastated to hear the news of the passing of Tony McDowall whilst on holiday.

"Tony played a huge role when we gained promotion to the premier division.

"Tony was a great player and more importantly a great guy.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

An FCDO spokesperson told the Sun: “We are supporting the family of a British man following his death in Turkey and are in touch with the local authorities.”
