A "number" of staff at a Cumbernauld high school are self-isolating after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

NHS Lanarkshire's Test and Protect team will now work to identify close contacts of the member of staff to have tested positive at Our Lady's High School.

Parents and carers of pupils at the school have been contacted to advise of the COVID-19 case.

A North Lanarkshire Council spokeswoman said: “A number of school staff are self-isolating following a staff member testing positive for Covid-19.”

It is the second school within the area to be hit by coronavirus after four children and four members of staff at St Helen's Primary School tested positive last week.

Both schools remain open as normal as the virus risk to the wider school communities is currently low.

Ashley Goodfellow, NHS Lanarkshire consultant in public health, said: “NHS Lanarkshire’s test and protect team has carried out contact tracing after a member of staff at Our Lady’s High School tested positive for Covid-19. They are currently self-isolating at home.

“NHS Lanarkshire is working closely with North Lanarkshire Council with regards to the case and has now contacted all close contacts. Public health advice has been given to these individuals and they are being told to self-isolate.”

“The risk to the wider school community is currently low and the school will remain open as normal.”
