THIS is the incredible moment a heroic firefighter rescues a person from a burning building. 

An eyewitness said the blaze took place today on Boyd Street and Glasgow city council announced that Cathcart Road had been closed between Dixon Road and Allison Street. 

He told the Glasgow Times: "Before the fire brigade arrived the ground floor flat’s window was smashed in.

"This is the flat where the fire originated. The cafe across the street provided their fire extinguisher to assist putting the fire out.

"Two ladies were supported from their flat via the windows down a ladder by the fire brigade."

He added: "One man was on the ground suffering from the smoke. He looked dazed but not serious. Ambulances arrived very quickly.

"It was a great job by the emergency services."

A video sent to this paper shows a firefighter rescuing what appears to be a family from a flat in the building. 

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service: "We were alerted at 1.48pm on Thursday, September 24 to reports of a fire within a three-storey tenement building on Boyd Street, Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene, and firefighters worked to extinguish a fire within a ground floor flat.

"Five people were given precautionary check-ups at the scene for smoke inhalation.

"Crews currently remain in attendance as they work to ensure the area is made safe."
