Glasgow has reacted after students were ordered not to go to bars, restaurants and parties this weekend.

The announcement came after hundreds of students tested positive for coronavirus at Glasgow University with more self-isolating.

Students who repeatedly flout coronavirus guidelines could be thrown out of university, education bosses warned.

Universities have also now agreed to introduce a “yellow card, red card” system for breaches of student discipline that put students and others at risk.

But our readers raised concerns about how pubs would police the ban.

Shirley Bradley wrote: "Is this a joke? Last time I checked students don’t walk about with ‘I am a student’ written on them so how would people know if someone is a student or not "

"How the hell are they going to stop them? These rules are getting more ridiculous by the hour," Robert Hamil added.

And Liza Catrell said: "So basically no student discount."

Scot Cairns said: "As long as they don't walk about with t-shirts on saying I am a student am sure they will be allowed in.. the world is fried."

But some believed it was the right decision to stop the outbreak.

One reader wrote: "Well so they don't go home and give it to gran. Won't kill them too stay in for two weeks, try six months then let them complain.

"Stop complaining it is a virus we don't have control over it but we can be sensible and control ourselves."

Others also raised concerns about the number of students working in hospitality.

Mick Quinn said: "Nevermind the huge amount of hospitality workers who are also students... Aye, seems well thought-out."
